World of Speed: The Future of Racing Games? | Hardcore Gamer

Added: 26.03.2014 22:15 | 7 views | 0 comments

During the hustle and bustle of the 2014 Game Developers Conference, My.com and Slightly Mad Studios let Hardcore Gamer jump behind the wheel in World of Speed, the company's new free-to-play, team-based, racing MMO. While that mouthful of sloppily conjoined tidbits may seem counteractive to one another -- as racing and massive multiplayer gaming have yet to establish any solid foundation -- there's a lot to appreciate about Slightly Mad Studios' zealous approach to both respective genres. The focus isn't always on winning in World of Speed, at least not in the traditional sense. You can just as easily earn your keep by way of smart driving and objective completion. Trust us, plenty of eyebrows were raised, and the team spewing these words were subjected to a lady's-night-at-the-bar-full of oddball stares.

Museum of Simulation Technology - Preview

Added: 26.03.2014 20:36 | 5 views | 0 comments

If only Aperture Science could see this.

Genius. That's what I felt when I first saw , and just recently when I first saw Museum of Simulation Technology at the IGF Pavilion, an annual showcase of indie games on the show floor at the Game Developers Conference. But that would be a small lie. I first saw the title, named Museum: simulation technology at the time, as a YouTube tech demo trailer (see video below) in early January that now has more than 32,000 upvotes, fewer than 400 downvotes, and over 1.2 million views. So I'm not the only one who sees genius here.

On design, Museum of Simulation Technology is based on forced perspective, an optical illusion that seems to resize objects based on their distance to the viewer and, in more layman terms, makes people believe they can squeeze the moon between their fingertips. It's a common camera trick that, surprisingly, has been rarely explored in games apart from perhaps a minor one-time use.

Sony's Project Morpheus vs. Facebook's Oculus Rift: Tech Comparison

Added: 26.03.2014 15:15 | 9 views | 0 comments

VRFocus - Up until last week the advent of virtual reality (VR) technology was a kind of one horse race. Oculus VR's Oculus Rift has undoubtedly spent the last few years in the spotlight as the de facto standard in VR videogaming. Sony Computer Entertainment (SCE) had a thing or two to say about that when it lifted the lid on its own VR headset, Project Morpheus, at the Game Developers Conference last week.

Virtual Reality will only grow from here

Added: 26.03.2014 14:15 | 7 views | 0 comments

ArabicGamers writes: Virtual reality is making headlines right now, and it's only going to get tense from here. The concept of VR gaming really started to appear in the news again over the last year with the success of the Oculus Rift, a head-mounted display that allows you to feel like you're actually in a videogame. Only developers and a small number of crowdfunding backers have been able to get their hands on it so far, but most of them say good things. As the world waited for a consumer release, something else major happened. At the Game Developers Conference in San Francisco last week, Sony decided to use the event to showcase its new plans for virtual reality: a mysteriously named device called Project Morpheus that works with the PlayStation 4. Suddenly one of the giants of console gaming was backing virtual reality, surely it was time to sit up and take notice?

Molyneux: Thriving Indie Scene “Won’t Last”

Added: 25.03.2014 15:30 | 5 views | 0 comments

Peter Molyneux, the creator of iconic franchises like Fable and Black & White, is convinced that the indie scene won't be a booming part of this industry forever.

"These things go in cycles. What I'd say is, enjoy this time, because it won't last," Molyneux told CVG at this year's Game Developers Conference. Don't think we're going to be all indies for the next five years - these things go in cycles, just like in the music business. You have a time where punk is big, and then you have times like now where everything is manufactured.
